April—Sexual Assault Awareness Month:

3rd: Film Screening: Hot and Bothered: Feminist Pornography (37 minutes)
Please note there is nudity and explicit material in this documentary!
Hot and Bothered: feminist pornography takes a rare and empowering look into the pornography industry and feminist community to see how they intertwine within the politics and poetics of female sexuality. It shows women who are committed to making and supporting pornography that includes their feminist values and will go up against an entire industry, stereotypes, and sexism to get what they want. Who better to claim the adult industry for themselves than the women it depends on? 7 pm, SBS Annex Conference Room (1443 E. 1st Street).

All of April: Clothesline Project display in the Park Student Union.
The Clothesline Project is a program started on Cape Cod, MA, in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to
the problem of violence against women (www.clotheslineproject.org).  The display will have previously made t-shirts and other forms of passive information and education.

Film screening of “Speak” followed by a group discussion
When:
Sunday, April 6th at 6:30 PM
Where: Coronado Residence Hall (822 E. 5th St.)
Why: To educate students about sexual assault through the independent film “Speak.”  Zach Nicolazzo from OASIS will be leading the group discussion following the showing.  Refreshments will be served. 

7th: Panel Discussion
7pm, Coronado Residence Hall (east lobby)
To disseminate information about sexual violence. Panelists will present from SACASA, Planned Parenthood, OASIS and UAPD.

8th: "Mock Tail" Date Rape Awareness
7pm, Coronado Residence Hall (east lobby)
A fun and interactive events that will allow students to understand the prevalence of data rape and tips to prevent it from occuring.

9th: Candlelight Vigil and Display of the Clothsline Project
7pm, Outside of Coronado in the grassy area located in from of La Aldea
To honor the victims of sexual violence. The Clothsline Project will also be displayed to allow students to connect to victims and their experience.

About Residence Life and WRC Collaboration: TBTN Kickoff Events
The purpose of these events is to spread awareness and educate the students living in residence halls about sexual violence and its impacts on our society.  Many topics surrounding the issue will be presented through interactive events including a film screening, panel discussion, “mock tail” evening, and a candlelight vigil.  All events will take place in or in the vicinity of Coronado residence hall and will begin at 7:00 PM, except for the film screening which will begin at 6:30 PM.  Each event is free of charge to students attending the university.  Please come take part in this educational opportunity and do your part in ending sexual violence.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Alyss Jensby at ajensby@email.arizona.edu.  *** All events are FREE and open to students of the university.  If you have any questions please contact Alyss Jensby at ajensby@email.arizona.edu***

10th, 11th, & 14th: Women's Resource Center & Men Against Violence tabling for
Take Back The Night.

What: Tabling will include the opportunity for community members to create t-shirts for the Clothesline Project as well as pledge to help end violence at UA.  Information about the WRC and MAV will also be available.

15th: Take Back The Night 2008
What
: An event to show solidarity in the face of sexual assault.  Event includes music by Leila Lopez and local Mariachi Bands, a mini-resource fair, a survivor speak-out, and many prominent speakers. Co-sponsored by the Women's Resource Center, Oasis Program, UA Men Against
Violence, Residence Life, Social Justice Leadership Center, Tucson NOW, Pride Alliance, SHAC, and WISE

17th: Film Screening: No! Confronting Sexual Assault (94 minutes)
No! provides a comprehensive lens to examine the impact of sexual violence on Black women and girls-calling to task in particular the behaviors and attitudes of Black men in reinforcing a pervasive cultural assault. This film includes insightful analysis from leading Black feminists, interviews with national violence prevention leaders and testimonials from sexual assault survivors who defy victimization.

22nd: Love Your Body Event
When: Tuesday, April 22nd, 7:00pm-9:30pm
Location: SBS Annex Conference Room (1443 E. 1st Street)
Description: Body image issues and eating disorders reflect broader institutional and systemic problems in our society. A panel will discuss the institutional sexism present in our world that leads women to experience discomfort with their bodies, and will also offer information on nutrition and self image. Activities include the opportunity to make your own breast mold, a discussion on food and body image, and raffle prizes.

22nd: Silent Auction
April 25th: Talk by Award-winning Independent Journalist Silja Talvi
When: 12 pm-1pm
Where:  SBS Annex Conference Room (1443 E. 1st Street)
What: Silja Talvi calls attention to the hard circumstances incarcerated women
face. Her book "Women Behind Bars: The Crisis of Women in the U.S. Prison
System" exposes the alarming incidence of abuse and injustice in our current
system. At a time of skyrocketing imprisonment rates and ever more disruptive
consequences, Talvi's work makes a comprehensive, convincing argument for
reform.

29th: Love Your Body Celebration

Description: This is a follow up event to paint and decorate the breast molds made in the Love Your Body Event taking place on 4/22.  This event is also
open to the women who made breast molds as part of the Breast Party last
semester. Just remember to bring your mold!

1st: Film Screening: Be Fruitful & Multiple (50 minutes)
How does it feel to have been pregnant or breastfeeding for most of your unmarried life? The film profiles four ultra-orthodox Jewish women in the U.S. and Israel, documenting their daily routines. In interviews, each of the women discuss their lives, focusing on their belief in the traditional and distinctive roles for women and men dictated by Jewish religion as well as on the condition of perpetual motherhood as the “natural” and desirable state of being for women.
